Ever have one of those days (weeks, months)? Where despite your best intentions, you just can't seem to get things done? This winter has been a bit like that for me. And here we are, already in April, and I've got a growing backlog of patterns and projects piling up that I want to get out there.
I don't know if it was winter blues, but I've been struggling to stay focused and motivated. I really did have good intentions - I made lists and schedules and plans - but just haven't been able stick to any of them. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been making (so it's not for lack of ideas or inspiration), and I know that some of you are patiently waiting for patterns. And I'm sorry it's taking so long.
Between my day job, freelance work, and regular old household chores, it seems like I have less and less time to devote to other things, like crocheting and designing, writing, learning, making time for friends and family…the list goes on. But more than time - because after all, we all have the same number of hours in the day and many people manage perfectly fine - I find that I lack energy at the end of the day, which results in a lack of focus and a lot procrastination.
So I'm reaching out for advice - how do you do it? How do you balance day jobs, families, and everything in-between with your creative work? How do you prioritize and stay focused? And how do you keep your energy up, especially your mental energy?
Now that spring is here (well, nearly anyway), I'm beginning to feel some of that renewed energy that comes at the end of a dark winter, when the daylight starts taking over again. I just hope I can put it to good use!
